We completed a roof installation on two condominium buildings in Chicago. These project details show how we went above and beyond to meet the customer’s needs:

  • Background. Two adjacent 29-story condominium buildings were in need of full roof replacement, and Knickerbocker Roofing Company was awarded the project for both buildings. We successfully replaced both roofs with minimal disruption to the condo association and unit owners.
  • Project Description. This project involved the full replacement of 22,500 square feet of roofing with a new modified bitumen roof system.
  • Capabilities, Operations, and Processes Featured. We used exterior hydraulic beams for material handling, which kept workers and building materials out of the building’s elevators and avoided restricting tenants’ access. We also installed a liquid flashing membrane at the steel perimeter framing.
  • Challenges. Managing materials and debris disposal on these two 29-story buildings required skilled assemblers, operators, and personnel to safely complete the project.
  • Equipment Used. We used full safety rail systems that were installed at the buildings’ perimeters. Additionally, a two-ply Derbigum modified bitumen roof system was heat welded by our CERTA-trained employees using traditional welding torches and applicator machines.

    • 900 building: 210 ft. x 65 ft.
    • 910 building: 108 ft. x 65 ft.
  • Materials Used: Derbigum 2-ply modified bitumen consisting of a Derbigum GP base ply and a Derbicolor XPS-FR-CR Bright White cap sheet.
