Project Description
Knickerbocker Roofing completed a comprehensive roofing and exterior renovation of the Gary Public Schools Maintenance Building in Gary, IN. The project spanned over 71,000 sq. ft. and included removing the existing roofing system and a 50 ft. chimney. We then installed a 60-mil KEE PVC roof system for long-term weather resistance and enhanced energy efficiency. We also added new clerestory windows and high-performance metal wall panels to three large rooftop penthouses, enhancing the building’s natural light and aesthetics.
This project also required safely removing asbestos-containing materials (ACM), which we completed in full compliance with environmental regulations. We also provided targeted carpentry work to support new system installations and to restore structural integrity. This project was completed on time, and helps modernize a critical facility in the district’s infrastructure. Challenges
One major challenge in the Gary Public School Maintenance Building project was abatement and removal of ACM. This work required certified crews, containment procedures, and procedures that comply with environmental regulatory standards during the demolition of the building’s chimney.
Another challenge was unforeseen deck and framing deficiencies, which were discovered during demolition. With our experienced managers and knowledgeable workers, we were able to make the necessary structural repairs to ensure the building’s integrity.
