Hamline Elementary School required a top-to-bottom roof replacement as part of a significant renovation. Over the summers of 2022 and 2023, Knickerbocker removed the existing roof systems on seven roof areas, with six different elevations. This project also required careful coordination with specialists in other trades, safe material handling at various heights, and responsible debris disposal.

What We Did

First, our crew removed the old roofing materials. Then we installed tapered insulation and a Johns Manville roofing system, which was chosen for its durability and proven performance. The entire roof covers 22,700 sq. ft. and is backed by a 20-year warranty, which is ideal for a facility that must operate without interruption during school sessions.

Key Challenges

This project posed some challenges, including:

  • Coordinating closely with other contractors working on the renovation.
  • Hoisting materials safely to multiple roof elevations.
  • Managing debris removal inside an occupied building to keep it clean and safe.
