The original home, carriage house and connected buildings on the property of the University of Chicago were converted many years ago into a studio, dormitory and learning center for Lorado Taft to teach and create many of his well-known sculptures. Knickerbocker was retained to replace the roofs and sheet metal with new Vermont slate, architectural shingles, copper metal valleys, gutters, downspouts, and twelve (12) custom fabricated skylights. The work was performed in conjunction with masonry tuck-pointing and interior remodeling. Knickerbocker utilized scaffolding, personal fall arrest systems, a crane, and a lull to safely accomplish this difficult project. Weekly project meetings with all trades allowed this project to maintain a timely completion.  For more information or to request a custom quote, please contact us today.
