Roofing Restoration & Custom Skylight Installation for Lorado Taft Midway Studio at University of Chicago

The original home, carriage house and connected buildings on the property of the University of Chicago were converted many years ago into a studio, dormitory and learning center for Lorado Taft to teach and create many of his well-known sculptures. Knickerbocker was retained to replace the roofs and sheet metal with new Vermont slate, architectural shingles, copper metal valleys, gutters, downspouts, and twelve (12) custom fabricated skylights. The work was performed in conjunction with masonry tuck-pointing and interior remodeling. Knickerbocker utilized scaffolding, personal fall arrest systems, a crane, and a lull to safely accomplish this difficult project.
